iPhone 15: The rumours

Here at CAN Solutions, we live a breathe business communications, especially mobile handsets. That’s why we can’t help but join in on the annual excitement leading up to the release of the iPhone 15. Apple continues to push boundaries and innovate with every new iteration of the popular iPhone handsets, and if the current rumours are true, we anticipate seeing the biggest upgrade to the handset since 2017. Below we have compiled the top rumours that you need to know.

It has been known that the iPhone 14 wasn’t a roaring success compared to previous years with buyer behaviour changing, meaning that users are choosing to stick with their current handsets and move onto a SIM only contract or wait another year before they upgrade. However Apple are still expected to introduce 4 handsets again this year - That would give us the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

We have listed some of the most notable changes currently rumoured for this year’s latest handsets:

Redesigned Exterior:
One of the most talked-about rumours regarding the iPhone 15 is its redesigned exterior. Industry insiders suggest that Apple might introduce a new form factor, possibly featuring a slimmer profile and reduced bezels. This could result in a larger screen-to-body ratio, offering users a more immersive viewing experience. We are also expected to see the Dynamic Island design appear on the standard handsets as well as the Pro.

Perhaps the most anticipated change to the iPhone 15 is that users may be surprised by, is a USB-C charging port instead of the iPhone 14’s Lightning port (which has been a fixture of every iPhone since the iPhone 5). The EU has told Apple that it has to add USB-C charging ports to iPhones from 2024, but leaked dummy units point towards the company adopting the new charging standard in 2023. This is great news for business users with multiple branded devices, and also not illogical considering Macbooks can be found with a USB-C charging port as well.

Enhanced Display Technology:
With every iPhone release, Apple aims to deliver an unparalleled display experience. The iPhone 15 is rumoured to feature advanced display technology, such as ProMotion with a 120Hz refresh rate, bringing smoother animations and more responsive touch interactions. This will be a great business improvement for those that use their phone to review presentations, videos or ads.

Powerful Processing and 5G Connectivity:
Under the hood, the iPhone 15 is anticipated to feature a more powerful chipset with the A16 Bionic, delivering faster and more efficient performance. This would enable smoother multitasking, faster app launches, and improved overall user experience. Additionally, it's highly likely that Apple will continue its commitment to 5G connectivity, allowing users to harness the full potential of high-speed networks for seamless streaming, gaming, and browsing.

Battery Life and Charging:
Battery life is a crucial aspect of any smartphone, especially when you are relying on your handset for business. Current rumours suggest that Apple might enhance the iPhone 15's battery capacity. Whether through improved hardware efficiency or larger batteries, users could enjoy extended usage without frequent charging, making the new handset even more reliable for extended work time on your phone. Additionally, there have been whispers of faster wired charging capabilities or even the introduction of wireless charging advancements.

Privacy and Security Features:
Apple has long been a champion of user privacy and security, and it's expected that the iPhone 15 will introduce further enhancements in this area. From advanced facial recognition technology to secure enclave processors. Users may be disappointed to learn that it is unlikely that Apple will bring back touch ID for its 2023 phones - however we can expect to continue to see facial recognition as the main security unlock feature.

Improved Camera Capabilities:
Apple has consistently raised the bar for smartphone photography, and the iPhone 15 is expected to continue this trend. Speculations suggest that the device might introduce significant camera enhancements, including improved low-light performance, enhanced zoom capabilities, and other photography features. The iPhone 15 is expected to continue with a triple sensor set up:

  • 48MP wide (24mm f/2.8)

  • 12MP ultrawide (13mm f/2.2)

  • 12MP telephoto (77mm f/2.8) w/ 3x optical zoom

These advancements would empower users to capture stunning photos and videos with greater ease and creativity and also support many who use their phone camera for work to continue to produce high quality imagery.

While the exact specifications and features of the iPhone 15 will remain unconfirmed until September, the rumours surrounding its release suggest a promising improve across the entire handset spec.
